Winter on film

Winter on film

Since starting a new year of normal 8-5 job, and having very short days, its not easy to find some time for photography during the week.  Finally a perfect day presented itself.  It was frosty and gloomy.  So I grabbed my Mamiya C330, which I’ve started to carry around, just for fun.  Lunch, vehicle and a little of Alberta back roads.  Another example that you do not need the sun to create interesting images.  Frost and cloudy skies make for beautiful scenery, that is just asking to be photographed.  Here are the results of an hour of shooting.  Enjoy and remember to click on any image to get the full effect.

Sunrise on Long Island

Sunrise on Long Island

After a busy time of Christmas preparations, we finally have some time to continue with our New York trip.  We already covered our day in Manhattan and Central Park.  Now it’s time for what we love doing best.

Our good friend Dominick, a great landscape photography artist, took us to his favorite spots on Long Island.  It was a full day from sunrise to sunset of beaches, waves, and beautiful landscapes.

After the long walk through Manhattan, we managed to get up early enough not to miss the sunrise.  The beach was already busy, with fishermen.  The Atlantic was quiet, and peaceful, and so was the mood.  There were Fuji cameras, Sony cameras, tripods and sand.  Everyone was fishing, in one way or the other.  At the end of the day, I think everyone came away with great catch.

Oh and remember to click on the images to get a much nicer view 🙂

New York Part 2: Central Park

New York Part 2: Central Park

I figured that Central Park should get it’s own post.  As we both love landscape photography, it was an easy choice.  It’s a beautiful place, and hard to imagine it’s location, among the skyscrapers of Manhattan. Coming from western Canada, where fall has long past, and the world turned to gray and brown, it was such a relief to still see magnificent colors present.  It brought immediate memories of childhood days.  I believe this has made Central Park, even more special.

Photographically, it’s a paradise.  One could spend days there, photographing nature, wildlife, and people.  If you are carrying a camera in Central Park, be prepared to be asked to take photos of strangers.  The bigger the camera the more you will be asked.  Carrying a little Fuji with me, I guess I wasn’t considered a serious enough photographer, but a friend that was with us, and his big DSLR camera, was asked constantly.  So here is an advice, if you want to be left in peace, don’t bring a DSLR camera to Central Park.

While taking pictures, we tried not to duplicate ourselves, and it wasn’t easy to do.  Here is what we came up with from the brief, albeit memorable visit.

Remember to click on the images to see them in full glory 🙂 Enjoy.

Last Moments Of Fall

Last Moments Of Fall

It must have been a murmur of falling snow that woke me up this morning way before 6AM. It wasn’t a huge surprise, considering it is November and we have been snowed on earlier than that in previous years.. It is almost gone by now but, I know, we have only a couple of weeks left before it will be a full blown winter again and I am resigned to it, really… I am! I am happy, however, that we have been able to have a picnic, just recently, in Rundle Park and spent a fewgorgeous hours, with many other people, enjoying the mild weather, sunshine and whatever was left of the fall colors. The light, as usual, this time of year, was wonderful as well, not to mention the pretty sunset sky that made this outing a complete delight, especially, when I did have my camera handy… Here is a few shots from that evening.  Feast your eyes with some gorgeous colors, guys. After all, it is going to be a while before we will be given more than whites, blues, blacks and browns to enjoy…

When Fall Came To Elk Island

When Fall Came To Elk Island

It is truly wonderful to be able to witness changes of the seasons and record them for posterity. As much as I don’t like the fact that summer is over, when it happens, I always find an enormous pleasure in watching the world change from green to golds and reds and yellows.  It happens early in our neck of the woods. One can see those changes happening a good month ahead of calendar, and this year, due to the drought, I think, it all was happening much faster.  We have managed to visit Elk Island a few times, during this change and were given a beautiful sunset or two, while at it, and today, I would like to share some images from those trips.  I hope you will enjoy them.

Jasper in Celluloid

Jasper in Celluloid

Our 22 year anniversary, and we decided to spend a day in the mountains.  It’s been almost 6 months since we took a trip there.  I thought it would be a great time to try out some film shooting.  So I dragged that beast of a camera, the Mamiya RB67, all over the place.  I have to confess, I did have my Fuji X-T1 as a backup, but didn’t use it at all.  This allowed me to take more images of the family, which on trips like this I usually for get to do.  This time I thought I would concentrate on images that will matter to me more, than just landscapes.

The weather wasn’t very nice.  Rainy and windy.  Colors of autumn are practically gone from the mountains now.  The leaves blown by the winds.  I know that Kasia will have more colorful images from this trip.  I just concentrated on b&w.  So here we go.  Just a few images from the anniversary trip.  Enjoy!
