Fall Aurora

Fall Aurora

We are lucky here in Alberta, because some nights are full of light show. We had a couple of gorgeous Aurora showing last fall and I have managed to capture some shots without leaving the city.

It is such a pleasure to be able to watch the dancing lights without having to drive long way to escape the city lights. Here are some shots from those two nights when I was able to play a bit with the camera and witness the spectacle. Enjoy!

A Sunset to Remember – End of Summer Visit to Jasper NP

A Sunset to Remember – End of Summer Visit to Jasper NP

We were so lucky this year to catch the last day of Jasper Tram late run, during our early September visit to the mountains. A beautiful sunny day that ended with us being able to behold a beautiful sunset from the top of the mountain was a great way to end summer vacation time. I really enjoy our one day trips to the Rockies. There is a lot of hours spend in a vehicle, but it is always worth the effort. As we often do, we have stopped at our favorite spots, explored new things and even engaged in a moment of night photography – one just could not resist to capture the Milky Way. One thing that I do not enjoy, during those short visits is the lack of time. One would like to have more of it to explore, change location for some pictures and, simply, to take a moment to just be. However, even this frustration is not enough to stop me from taking advantage of the surrounding beauty. Here is a few shots I have taken during that trip…

Canola Sunset

Canola Sunset

I’m sure most of us have weeks that don’t go as planned. Disappointments, problems, stress are quite familiar to most of us and we all have different ways of dealing with them. For me, the best way to handle things like that is to go out of the city and spend a couple of hours shooting. I, usually, drag poor Mac with me and we go out where ever the car takes us…It’s canola time on the prairies. I have discovered a new place, while working outside the city last week and figured we could go and maybe catch a nice sunset. I love being by those fields when they are in bloom, even if I do suffer from allergic reaction to the copious amounts of pollen being released at this time.. But it is well worth it. The gorgeous yellow color of the blooms, contrasting with deep dark green of the surrounding fields and the blue of the sky, that for a moment was not completely covered with heavy dark clouds were a pleasure to see. It was finally warm and dry (we’ve been experiencing unusual amount of rainy days recently and tend to treasure every day that brings sunshine) By the time the sun has set, we were both relaxed and peaceful. All the annoyances from the past week were forgotten. Here is a sample of pictures I took that evening. I truly hope, you will find a as much of peace and relaxation looking at them as I did while taking them ;D

A Little Night Photography

A Little Night Photography

About a year ago, during fall, we have decided to visit Wabamun Marina at night and see if we could get any nice shots.  It was rather a cool night, so we have spent there just enough time to make a try at creating a star trail picture and a few other shots around.  Sky is not easy to photograph over there, as we’ve found out, due to the relative brightness of the area and it didn’t help that we had vehicles coming and going and lighting everything around us as well.  There are only a few shots I have chosen from that outing that were good enough to share today.  I wanted to see what kind of star trail shot I ‘d get while not pointing my camera due north. Normally, I probably would have discarded it, but it looks weird and different enough to be interesting, in my opinion anyway. ;D And, as it happens sometimes around these parts, we have managed to even get a bit of Northern Lights appear in a few shots..

Welcoming the Day..

Welcoming the Day..

It is a bit nasty outside today, so it’s not a huge surprise I have turned to pictures, I have taken during our early morning trip to Rundle Park, here in Edmonton’s River Valley.  I can’t believe it has been a month since we have visited, though the world looks much changed from that morning.  We have lost all that brilliant foliage that was covering all the trees, glowing beautifully in sunrise light.. Everything seems to be preparing to welcome cold and snow nowadays, and I am not entirely sure, I am ready for it… We have had a wonderful fall so far. It was full of beautiful and warm days. The colors, actually lasted longer than expected, giving me many opportunities to go shooting. I am very happy about it.  There is nothing better, during long winter months, to dive into those colorful pictures and let one’s eyes feast on all this splendor.  And, though, I am not looking forward to it, I have a nice stock of pictures, to last several months deprived of color.. Since I am a sharing person, I will show them all to you as well. ;D Enjoy!

Early Spring At Elk Island

Early Spring At Elk Island

Here in Alberta, we suffer quite a delay when it comes to arrival of spring.  Even if we lose all the snow for a bit, we usually get another dump or two in late March, beginning of April, accompanied by quite a drop in temperatures as well.  Winter does feel long here on the prairies. It is hard to stay put for such a long time and I drag Mac, quite often, out of the city, even if it is only for a short trip to Elk Island National Park.  Here is a few images from a couple of such trips earlier this year. I’m sure they’ll feel as breath of fresh air after the recent heat and smoke from the BC forest fires, that’s been obscuring our skies of late.. Enjoy!
