Undirected Alberta Sunset

Undirected Alberta Sunset

This evening the clouds were gathering very nicely, forecasting a spectacular sunset. I decided to go out for a quick trip around the country side. By the time the kids went to bed, and I finally left the house, there were no clouds what so ever. Still determined to get some shots I jumped in the car and I was off. I did not have a lot of time left so I tried to make the best of it. Here are the results. Enjoy!

Abstract Textures

I’ve decided to change things a little. I know everyone is waiting impatiently for Nikki’s Part 2 :), which is in the works. So in the mean time here are some real textures from the land of oil, which is Fort McMurray. Enjoy! I promise, Nikki is coming back 🙂

Who do you want to be?

Who do you want to be?

I have ordered a new set of Cactus Wireless flash triggers for a friend, and they arrived today. These are new version of the ones I ordered not too long ago. I must say that the improvement in build quality is very apparent. I wanted to test them to see how they compared to the v2, which I have. Again big improvement. It is kind of hard to show them working properly in a photo, but you will have to take my word for it. This was taken with a Canon 430ex flash with a green gel and a snoot, at 1/16 power, right and high to the camera. And a Canon 580ex at 1/8 power through a white umbrella. My wife was graciously holding the background. This what came out of it. Enjoy.

Haunted House Project

I’m a little disappointed. I was hoping for a little better results, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

A friend of mine and me went out to check out two abandoned farms he found during his travels. The first one was in the middle of field, and we did ask a farmer for permission to enter. The second farm was in a little better shape, but the house wasn’t as dramatic as the first one. Still I marked it on a map, for a possible shoot location. So we decided to go back to the first farm. The sun was getting low on the horizon and it was getting dark. I tried a couple of shots, but was only satisfied with a couple of them, so I decided to wait for real dark. It started getting cold. The house looked spooky, and my friend disappeared in a grove of trees. My imagination started to wander. Then out of no where my flashes started going off one by one. It wasn’t dark enough yet for time lapse photos, but I knew the batteries were going to run out if I didn’t turn off these strobes. I came to the house, it was dark inside and all I could think of is cold clammy hands grabbing me when I entered. I got really spooked. I managed to turn the strobes off….

Fun in the snow

Fun in the snow

Last couple of weekend we were enjoying the lovely warmer weather on the slope of a very nice sledding hill. Usually it was quite empty, but today, since the weather was perfect, +2C, sunny, blue skies, there were a few other people around. I guess the group of younger adults didn’t know the hill so well (I still have a bruised back from last weekend). One of the guys wasn’t very careful and got on the bumps. This is what happened.

Absolutely Absolut

Absolutely Absolut

This shot came into light more as an accident then anything else. Our new fridge at work, has this cool ice/water dispencer, and when the lights are out, it looks like something out of a science fiction movie. I thought this would be a interesting “location” for some kind of a product shot. Essentially I would have preffered a smaller bottle, but I had to work with what I had. I think the end result came out quite nice. Enjoy!
