Candid Beach People – Street Photography

Street Photography… what streets?!?

I don’t know if you can call this street photography, as there are no streets really… so what do you call beach people photography? I guess I’ll stick with street photography, since to me that definition basically says, that these are candid photos of people. Just the setting is a bit different from a street…. it’s a beach. Anyhow, now that we got this out of the way, let’s continue. I really enjoy photographing people. I am normally the biggest introvert you’ll ever meet, and going out among people and taking their photo, scares the crap out of me. I’m usually the creepy creep, training my lens on you, from far away 🙂

Candid Photography

When people are not aware that you are taking their picture, they behave as they normally would. The moment they spot a camera pointed at them, their behaviour changes instantly. They either hide, give you a fake smile, or just pretend to ignore you, but their natural behaviour, that moment, vanishes with out a trace. This is why I try to use either a very wide angle lens, or a long zoom. The wide angle is perfect for hip shooting. What I mean by that is, you pretend to adjust settings on your camera, and without raising the camera to your eye, you take a photo. Or you carry the camera nonchalantly in your hand, and point in the general direction and hope for the best. Wide angle lenses are best suited for this, as it is hard to miss the subject. Other lenses require lots of practice, to know exactly where to point to get that awesome image. Changing from a 17mm to a 35mm lens had disastrous effects, as none of the hip shooting images came out. I just didn’t know how to aim the lens properly. So my tip to you is… try hip shooting, or find some balls and don’t be afraid of people 😀

The World in Yellow – Macro Photography

It’s been a long time since I have dedicated a post to just macros.. It’s gotten cold yet again and, it looks like, winter is not ready to move on at present. Not that there was a chance of that but .. eternal hope and the like ;D Oh well, we’ll have to wait for spring some more, but don’t despair. At least in pictures we can find some wonderful color, borrowed from other seasons. I’m in mood for yellow in nature today and I do hope you’ll find it as enjoyable as I do. I love macro photography. Love the fact that one can concentrate on a detail and that one can have wonderful colors in the background without sacrificing the main subject. Grant it, it it’s not so easy to make macro interesting, but I hope, I have ben close enough to it that you’ll take a moment to look at these ;D Have a wonderful day everybody!

Beautiful Lake Louise – Travel Photography

One of the most beautiful places I have ever visited in Canadian Rockies is Lake Louise in Banff National Park. I am drawn to it over and over again regardless of the season. It is simply picturesque and one cannot blame me, really, for taking lots of pictures while I am there.. We have visited it again, during our December trip to the mountains. I have already shared some of the pictures from this trip in my post Solstice Sunrise in the Rockies and, with a great pleasure, I’d like to show you some more. Hope you find them pleasing. Winter really can be beautiful and since we are stuck with it here for months on end I’d rather concentrate on it’s better aspects.. And if you can add to it a little bit of travel that’s even better. Travel photography is a beautiful thing! ;D Have a wonderful weekend everybody!

When Fall Met Summer – Landscape Photography And More..

I think it’s time for some color, don’t you? It’s been so long since we’ve seen more than whites, blues, blacks and grays, so why not go back to late summer and beginning of fall, when all the world was covered in beautiful colors? It’s seems to me that Mother Nature gives us this opportunity, every year, to soak it all up in preparation for a monochromatic season that lasts too long.. Today, I would like to share photos from two trips of ours that took place just as the seasons were changing.. Last day of summer, first day of fall. Two sunsets in rural Alberta. A little bit of landscape photography, a bit of rural architecture and nature and, of course, a macro shot (one cannot admire the world without looking close at things, don’t you think?) and all of it full of beautiful colors, complements of Mother Nature. I am so very glad to have seen it all and have my memories recorded so that I can look at all this splendor when I’m feeling deprived of color. Hope it is as enjoyable to you as it is to me 😀

Wishing You All A Very Merry Christmas!

It is hard to believe that 2013 is almost over.. The year has flown so fast again, that it is hard to remember what has happen. Finally, though, there is time to relax, grab a cup of tea and enjoy some holiday cheer, with lights on, Christmas tree and my family around. I don’t know about you, but I find that world lit with Christmas lights seems so much warmer and so much more beautiful. With great pleasure I would like to share some of my Christmas world with you today and wish you all wonderfully relaxing and peaceful Christmas. Have a very merry Christmas, guys! ;D

A Short Trip to Butchart Gardens in Victoria – Travel Photography

Considering that we got, yet again, a foot of snow and the temperatures are dropping, most everybody here in Edmonton, I’m sure, is thinking of taking off to some tropical island to bask in sun and heat.. Well, since such a trip is out of the question for us, at this time, I am tempted to look at my pictures from our summer trip to BC ( to check our previous adventures on Vancouver Island see Beautiful British Columbia – Part 7), this time, from our short visit at the famous Butchart Gardens in Victoria. Such a lovely place to explore!! So many beautifully growing, disgustingly luscious (sorry, a bit of a gardener’s envy on my part, here) plants, beautifully arranged for the viewer to see.. I could spend hours with my macro lens there, surrounded by all that splendor.. Alas, we didn’t have too much time and I did not take my 100mm lens, just the 200mm one and had to work with that, along with my 17mm. Travel photography forces us to make the most of what we have (equipment and time -wise).. Lets see what I have managed to do with the two lenses I brought with me. Hope you enjoy!
