Summer Visit to Badlands

Summer Visit to Badlands

Drumheller, Alberta has always been one of our favorite places to visit.  So, last summer we have decided to take yet another trip there and explore the prairies of southern Alberta and all the weird and interesting rock formations with hoodoos and more. We even managed to fit in my first ever helicopter ride into the outing! It was very interesting to see the land from birds view point. The flat prairies suddenly drop down and the canyons are lined up by layered rock, giving you an idea why it is such a good place for paleontologists to explore.  We have managed some nighttime photography, a sunrise, some travel photography with a stop over at Vulcan, Alberta and take a picture with a star ship ;D We have accomplish all of that without being completely devoured by mosquitoes, which is quite an achievement in August, if I say so myself..  All in all a very successful trip all around…

Birthday Adventure On Winter Prairies

Birthday Adventure On Winter Prairies

I have totally forgotten about this collection of pictures, shot during our little excursion outside the city last year on my birthday. It was a cold and frosty day with a beautiful blue sky. Such days make me think that I don’t hate cold as much ;D Winter doesn’t often give us opportunities for bright and cheerful photography, that is why I enjoy this so much. Sunny skies, frost and fresh snow on the ground make for quite lovely views, much appreciated, I think, during long and cold winters.

It was a short trip, so there aren’t too many pictures to share, but what there is I like. Hope you have a similar sentiment ;D. So, to all of you, who cannot enjoy blooming flowers and spring just yet I give you a bright and sunny view of winter. Enjoy!

Abraham Lake with Fuji and Film

Abraham Lake with Fuji and Film

After a few times of waking up at 3 am, to be able to arrive at the famous Abraham Lake for sunrise, we got smart.  We decided to find a hotel as close to the lake as possible and stay overnight.  That’s what we did.  The plus of this was that we were able to go to Abraham lake at night.  Now that was an experience of it’s own.  The sky was clear, no moon at all, and the amount of stars visible, was just staggering.  Time for tripods, wide angle lenses and flash lights… oh right we forgot those.  I have never been in a situation where the darkness was so complete.  Taking a step or two away from the tripod, created a danger of walking right back into it, and toppling it over.  Adding to the darkness were ominous sounds coming from the lake.  Creaks, groans, gurgles where enough to get the imagination going wild.  We did not stay very long.  Managing 2 – 3 images each.

The next morning we joined the droves of photographers at the lake.  This lake, because of unique methane bubble frozen in ice, is almost a pilgrimage for any landscape photographer.  This is the reason why I wanted a little different look.  Create at least a few photographs that were a little different.  Still you cannot escape the beauty of frozen bubbles in clear ice, and a spectacular sunrise over the mountains.   Choosing the images for this blog wasn’t easy either. They might look similar, but everyone is different.  I know it flies in the face of convention, where seasoned landscape photographer, advice on posting 1 or 2 of the best.  Problem is, both Kasia and me, really love all of them. We both have different way of shooting, and different editing style.  This reflects in the images.

Enjoy!

Ogrodzieniec – Poland with Fuji

Ogrodzieniec – Poland with Fuji

Located on the Trail of the Eagle’s Nests, Ogrodzieniec Castle rules over the Krakow-Czestochowa Upland in southern Poland.  Established first in early 12th century, destroyed and rebuilt numerous times since then it was finally abandoned at the beginning of 19th century due to extensive fire damage and remains a picturesque ruin ever since. It comes with rich history (from Tartar to Swedish invasions) and some interesting legends (such as Black Dog of Ogrodzieniec among others).  I was very excited to finally come and see it for myself.  Cleverly built incorporating existing, very interesting rock formations, looks from a distance as if a dragon was guarding it. I have spent a lovely evening walking around the complex and taking shots of it from different angles until rain has chased us away.  Here is what I came back with. Enjoy!

Scotland with Fuji – Saying Good-bye Is Never Easy..

Scotland with Fuji – Saying Good-bye Is Never Easy..

It’s hard to say good-bye to a beautiful place. And Scotland is, definitely, that. Who knows when I’ll have a chance to visit again… We knew we had to rush to get to Glasgow, during our last day, but we could not resist taking stops on the way, taking the views in, recording them with our cameras. Even managed to snick in a few night shots. The stop over at Eilean Donan Castle I have shared already. Today, I’m going to show you the rest of the last pictures from beautiful Scotland. One of these days, I hope to come back, revisit some of the places we have seen, discover new ones. For now, though, I have my pictures and with them lots of memories. Thank you, Adam, once again for your hospitality. I hope you will be able to come and visit us here in Canada, one of these days, so that we can return the favor of showing you around.

Second Visit at Eilean Donan Castle

Second Visit at Eilean Donan Castle

On the way back to Glasgow, our last day of traveling in Scotland, we just had to stop again at Eilean Donan Castle. After all it was right there on our way, the day was beautiful and the light gorgeous. We couldn’t help ourselves and had to spend the whole evening there, regardless of the fact that we had to take a flight to Poland the next day and could not really afford to be late. But to me, a little lost sleep, was not a steep price to pay for the experience. I even managed to experiment a bit with special effects, shooting panoramas and play with long exposure.  All in all, time well spent. After all, the best part about photography is all the fun one can have gallivanting all over the place, seeing wonderful places, playing with your camera and test it’s limits while enjoying your company and spending wonderful time with friends 😀
