Banff in October – Part 3

Banff in October – Part 3

One cannot be in Banff NP and not visit Lake Louise. I’m sure I have said it many times before, but this is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. No matter what time of year I am there, I always find myself taking a long time to explore the surrounding area and taking lots and lots of pictures. If you ask me to point to a favorite one from this trip, I can’t. Which ever direction you look, there is a glorious view, just waiting to be captured. Judge for yourself..

Banff in October – Part 2

When you have a chance to stay over in a location such as Banff National Park for a couple of days and nights you have a lot of time for exploring. We have been lucky with the weather and took full advantage of it. Drove to many of our favorite spots and discovered a few new ones. It was quite interesting to see fall meeting winter. Snow on the ground and some trees that still have colorful foliage on them contrasting nicely with a gorgeous blue sky. Here is a few shots of what we have been able to see..

Banff in October – Part 1

Banff in October – Part 1

Since we are all stuck at home and shouldn’t travel anywhere, I’ve decided to share with all of you my memories of a trip to Banff National Park last fall. I know pictures are not a substitute of a great trip, but if we can’t go to the mountains, we might as well let the mountains come to us ;D

We were very lucky last fall to spend a couple of days in Banff National Park. October is a good time to visit. During weekdays, there are not as many people, usually, as in summer months and one can explore the mountains and the town of Banff without tripping over tourists every step of the way. When we visit Rockies, I usually concentrate on the mountains and nature. This time I decided to take a few shots in town, including insides of my favorite stores. The first time I have ever visited Banff, almost three decades ago (boy, time flies, when you’re having fun!!) I found all-year-around Christmas store. It was a middle of summer and entering the store and finding myself in the middle of winter, Christmas trees and all sort of Christmas decorations, was a bit of a shock. When and where I grew up, this type of stuff was only available in December. Having to discover it in the middle of summer was quite amazing. I have visited this store many times over the years, but I will never forget that first time and the instant joy I have experienced. But, the Christmas store is not the only one worth visiting. There are many, including the ones that carry rocks and minerals and little (and not so little) pieces of art created out of these rocks. There are galleries featuring local artists and many other things to see and explore. If you’re ever in the neighborhood you should visit. It is really lovely. Here is a few shots I have taken during this last visit in the town. Enjoy!

A trip to Vancouver – Part 7

This is the last post in the series. All good things must come to an end. So did our visit in Vancouver, BC. It was time to drive home. As always, we stopped on the way, where we could,. Where we couldn’t, I tried to capture the scenes from a moving car. Sometimes, the lack of time is a bummer, but one can always take a trip again, right? Once again, my thanks to our hosts. It was fun to visit and, hopefully, we will be able to return the favor in the near future. Until the next time!

A Trip to Vancouver – Part 6

It’s always interesting what things will catch one’s eye, when visiting a new place. I try to capture such things for myself, just to remember them later on. It’s quite a lot of fun to go over the pictures and try and remember where we were when such picture was shot. Sometimes, it’s only to capture an interesting sky, sometimes, it’s a sculpture or another architectural detail where, other times, it’s a play of light and shadows or view of the city… Here are some of such pictures I took during our last year’s trip to Vancouver, BC.

A trip to Vancouver – Part 5

Trains… I like trains. I have traveled using trains a lot, when I was growing up. They took me to visit family, for a trip to a forest, abroad.. Europe is full of trains… Every time I visit I try to take a train ride. Here in Alberta, I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to use trains, other than in a museum or a historical park. I do it whenever I can, but I’ve never had a chance to , actually, drive a train before. During our visit to the West Coast Railway Heritage Park , just off Sea to Sky Highway we were lucky to encounter two wonderful gentlemen who were in a process of repairing a train engine and were just about done. Learning about my fondness for the engines they let me start one, for testing purposes and let me move it a bit. It was only a few meters and under supervision, but it was the coolest thing ever! Here are some pictures I took there.
