Banff in October – Part 9

Sunrise in the mountains is as great as a sunset, enjoyed the best in peace and quiet. Unfortunately, that was not the case that morning. It seems like a lot of tourists decided to go shooting in the same location as we did and they were running around yelling and generally making a nuisance of themselves… At least, we were smart enough to position ourselves higher above all that gaggle of somewhere around 40 people with cameras, taking the same pictures.. It was still lovely to see the light caressing the mountain tops and glowing pink where it touched them. Loved it, took way too many pictures before we changed location because it was our last day in the mountains… Here is a few pictures I have taken that morning. Next time I know where to go to avoid the masses ;D Enjoy!

Banff Gondola works all year around, allowing people like us to experience sunset from top of the mountains. I love being able to watch the sky change in the evening so high up, when in the mountains. It allows us so much more to see. Even without clouds, picking up colors, it was a beautiful evening and the views were pretty spectacular. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from that evening. Enjoy!

Because we did not have time restriction during our October visit to the Rockies, this allowed us to stay out longer and take some night time pictures. It is a weird feeling to be in wilderness surrounded by darkness, not knowing what you might encounter. We try to, usually, make a bit of noise to alert the wildlife about our presence hoping, that the animals are smart enough to avoid us. In most cases it works, but there were a few times over the years that we were a bit too close to them without realizing it. Fortunately, this time we were spared that and were able to enjoy the peace of a night time in the mountains in all the places we have stopped. Here is a selection of the night time shots from that trip. Enjoy!

Sunsets in the mountains can be quite picturesque. If the sky cooperates and the clouds are there, highlighted with pinks and oranges from the setting sun and the mountain tops glowing high above all is great. Well, there was no clouds when we ventured to shoot this sunset, during our October trip to the Rockies. We still captured a few images and spend a gorgeous couple of hours surrounded by the majestic mountains on a shore of a lake, taking in the quiet of the place. The conditions allowed me to play a bit with long exposure and different camera settings, and I enjoyed myself a lot. Here are some of the shots from that evening..

If you follow the blog, you have probably noticed that I never go on a trip without taking a longer lens with me. I find, especially in the mountains, there are so many opportunities to use it, it would be a shame to not to take it on an adventure. The intimate landscapes, the macros.. So much to look forward to. I find myself, actually using it more than a wide lens, quite often. Take a look at the few of the shots I have taken during our October visit to Banff National Park.

When you are at Lake Louise, there is only a short drive to visit Emerald Lake. It was an interesting drive, because, it seems, crossing the border from Alberta to BC, we crossed from one season to another. You have seen wintery Lake Louise (Banff in October – Part 3). The closer we got to Emereld Lake, the more it looked like fall. I strongly recommend stopping over that beautiful spot. it is truly gorgeous. Just take a look!
