In Need of Some Color

In Need of Some Color

As it is November and prairies have been covered in snow for a couple of weeks now I find myself wanting a little color.  Winters are long here in Alberta. Short days, at this time of year, make me want to go back to time of sunshine, warmth and color.  Not that one cannot find pretty things during this time of year, and believe me, I was already looking for them and taking pictures ;D. Today, however, I want to go back to spring and summer and pretty flowers and gorgeous light. And, as I’ve said before, there is nothing wrong with a little color therapy. Enjoy! ;D

It’s Finally Here!

It’s Finally Here!

This year, spring has been very slow to arrive.  Two snow storms and gloomy skies and rains during April and nothing in nature was moving until the arrival of May. I was so very happy to see the buds finally starting to open up and wasn’t able to resist taking some macro gear and starting on the pictures.  The color is finally there, though, at the beginning one had to look very closely to find it.  It is getting better now with some tulips blooming, forsythia yellowing here and there and dandelions starting to grace the lawns (I know, I know, pesky weeds, but I so love their appearance this time of year, since it signifies that spring is finally here to stay). For the rest of the world these images are an old news, for us, here on the Alberta prairies these are very welcome, I imagine. Regardless, though, I hope you will all enjoy these.  For me, there is nothing more appealing and fresh than the first signs of spring!

A Little Color For A Snowy Day – Macro Photography

Spring has arrived with snow yet again and, though winter has been very mild this year, I, still find myself in need of some color. And what is the best way to get it? In macros, of course ;D Here is a few of those colorful pictures I have been saving for the time when I need to look at some juicy and bright color. I hope you find them all as pleasing to look at as I do today. Enjoy!

In Need Of A Little Color 1 – Macro Photography

Considering the fact that practically all the snow is gone and what’s left is really nothing to look at, I have decided to open my big file with spring / summer macros to cheer me up.  It never fails. When I look at these colorful pictures I can’t help but feel happy.  It’s funny that the need to look at some color, especially this time of year, is what got me into photography in the first place.  One does not need to go far away, when tired with winter. All that is needed is to look at the colorful world captured in pictures.  I truly hope that this works for you guys as well.

Little Color For A Rainy Day – Macro Photography

Little Color For A Rainy Day – Macro Photography

It has been a while since I dedicated a whole post to macros.  Summer is a perfect time to shoot them, since the flowers and bugs and other small things are very easy to find.  I have been using my own back yard again. It is the closest place to go and all you need to do is to plant some flowers in the spring and hope, the weather won’t destroy them ;D. And, since it is raining and cold outside today, I figured, it would be a good day to share some color and sunshine with you guys.  So, without further delay, here they are..

A year ago… Photography Reflections.

A year ago… Photography Reflections.

I have been slacking.  Mostly because …. I guess I’m lazy.  I do have a backlog of images that are asking politely to be posted somewhere… maybe someone will like them?  What if no one really cares?  Will that have an impact?  Should it have an impact?  Should our creativity be influenced by someone liking or disliking or simply not caring about the images we create?  There are so many of us “photographers”.  Our images get lost in the deluge of other equally wonderful work from others.  We get discouraged, or yet a simple “LIKE” from a photographer we know and admire can send us on a pixel fueled high.  We want it, we crave it… and then we drop.

It’s funny how we call ourselves photographers, yet most of us are nothing but glorified point and shooters.  Glorified, because we got expensive gear.  We love our gear, we talk about it, we dismiss it’s faults and problems, and defend it vigorously on the social webs.  In this whole process we often forget, to create, share, and love… our images.

I recently heard a conversation a man had about his Leica Q, which he just bought.  It was an eye opener to listen how he dismissed the glaring faults, as trivial, like he was desperately trying to justify to himself, the very steep price of the camera and the impulse buy.  Hey, it’s Leica, so it must must must be grrrrreat!  It’s sad really.

I do the same with a lot of my posts.  Currently I use Fuji cameras for most of my work.  It fits me just fine.  Why do I talk about Fuji so much, because I like the camera, I like the company, and to be perfectly honest here, I’m doing it for attention.  Look what I can do with my little Fuji camera!!!   My wife shoots with an older Sony NEX camera.  I’m often in awe at what she creates.  Would she be able to do the same with, I don’t know, a Fuji or Leica, or Canon or some other brand?  I would say, definitely yes.  Then again I’m biased and my opinion doesn’t count 🙂

The point of this post is really, enjoy the gear you have… what ever it is.  Make it work for you, and create, share and love.

P.S. Fuji is still the best 🙂

P.P.S This post is brought to you by both Sony and Fujifilm.  Which image came from which camera, I’ll let you guess.
