Traveling the unknown Alberta – Alberta Landscape Photography

Alberta Landscape

Back from my gallivanting in Europe, it was a good time to go out and hit the Alberta back roads, not too far from Edmonton.   A nice quiet drive, until we stepped outside of the vehicle to try to take a photo.  The moment the door opened, my wife and me, were swarmed by mosquitoes… hoards of them.  Not only were they buzzing around our heads, they were getting in front of the cameras, creating live “sensor dust”.  As much as I love summer, and warm weather, I do not enjoy these blood suckers.  Besides that, we ventured out to parts unknown.  It’s nice to just take what ever road we feel like, and just cruise with windows wide open, not hurrying to get anywhere.

Since we both switched to mirror less camera systems these trips are even easier.  Even though both of us have 2 cameras at the ready, they do not take up a lot of space.  So we can keep our bags, lenses and all the needed accessories close, in the front of the vehicle.  We can change lenses easily and quickly, because everything is at hand.  I remember this in the old DSLR days… it was either kids or cameras… choices choices 🙂  Here are some images from this little trip. Enjoy!

Fuji in Europe Part 27 – Last day in Nuremberg

It has finally come to this.  Last in day in Nuremberg, and my good friend from Hooked on Europe decided that it would be good to go out on the streets again, and try some fuji night shooting.  We started off early, before the sun went down.  Which allowed me to catch some images with the golden light of the setting sun.  Nice long shadows, beautiful colors, great pictures.  It was a great finish to a wonderful day spent in the quiet atmosphere of the Altenburg Castle, then wondering the old streets of Bamberg.  Luckily I was leaving in the afternoon the next day, so I had time to go and spend the evening in great company, taking pictures of this beautiful city of Nuremberg.

Spring Is Finally Here – Macro Photography

Finally, after a long, long winter Spring has fully arrived. The leaves are coming out, the trees are starting to bloom and the weather cooperates.  I have been waiting for this for ever, it seems, but now I can dust off my macro lens and be out and about capturing some color.  Here is a few shots I was happy to take during the last couple of days. Enjoy! I know, I am.. ;D Kasia

Looking up in wonder – Cathedral Grove

Looking up in wonder – Cathedral Grove

Cathedral Grove

Coming back from Long Beach we had to stop at the famous Cathedral Grove.  It’s a very old forest located in MacMillan Provincial Park.  The trees there are hundreds of years old, and so tall one could say they touch the sky.  It’s one of the most beautiful and humbling places we have visited.  To think that these trees have been standing there since the middle ages, is uncanny. Even though there are a lot of people visiting, the place is strangely quiet.  One could say it’s a spiritual experience.  I guess that’s why it’s called the Cathedral Grove.

Capturing the Grove

Trying to capture the Grove is not an easy task.  You have to have a very wide lens and lots of space to be able to catch one of these tree giants in entirety.  It’s almost impossible, because there is almost no room along the paths to back away far enough.  Even at 15mm it wasn’t enough.  Still, the experience is well worth the trip.  Highly recommend you stopping by, and enjoy the quiet of time.  It’s amazing.

BC Trip – Travel Photography

BC Trip – Travel Photography

Mirror less for the win.

It’s been quite a while since I wrote a blog post.  I think I have a bit of catching up to do.  Actually quite a lot.  This is the second big trip that I’ve done with only mirror less cameras.  This time the bag contained three cameras, two Sony NEX models and one Fuji X-Pro1.  With all the lenses and other essentials it weighed less than if I packed my DSLRs.  So for walking around Vancouver, and then Vancouver Island, this was a perfect setup.  I will have to add that my wife was carrying all the heavy stuff, and her pictures from the BC Trip are absolutely wonderful.  So we dumped the kiddos on our friends, wonderful parents that we are, and headed out to the ocean.

The first day

Our first day constituted of trampling around parks, forests, and big hills.  I was glad I did not have my heavy DSLRs with me.  It was a tough day, but lots of opportunities for great photos.  The Sony wide angle lens came into play most often, as the trees were so tall, that anything else would not be able to fit them into the frame.  Enjoy!

Summer Evening at Qualicum Beach – Landscape Photography

Summer Evening at Qualicum Beach – Landscape Photography

It’s been a while since I have shared some of my shots taken during our summer travel on Vancouver Island ( you can check the last installment from that trip – record of our visit at Victoria’s Craigdarroch Castle in Beautiful British Columbia – Part 7).  During our stay on the Island we have been lucky to spend an evening at Qualicum Beach, being guided by one of our photographic friends, who was kind enough to take us to his favorite part of the coast and, though, the tide was high and most of the beach was covered with water, we still had a chance to take a wonderful walk,  admire the views and, of course, snap a few shots ;D.  It is such a pleasure to watch the sun disappear behind the horizon, making the sky burn! Landscape photography can be so much fun!!! I miss those summer days.. I hope sharing these pictures will take your minds away from this long and cold winter. I took mine off, for sure.  Enjoy! 😀
