Nature Awakening – Macro Photography

Nature Awakening – Macro Photography

Finally!! It seems like I have waited forever for the things to start moving along and trees and shrubs awake after winter.  Here is a few images I have taken during our trips outside the city. Beautiful sunsets allowed me to play a bit with light and highlights.  I love pussy willows that star in most of these shots. First little delights bringing hope that color will return to the world soon.. Enjoy!

Elk Island – Four Seasons – Summer – Part 2

Elk Island – Four Seasons – Summer – Part 2

Whether it’s a sunrise, sunset or the middle of the night, there is always something to see at Elk Island. It is a rare trip that I don’t bring way too many pictures back.  Here is part two of my summer shots.  I might dedicate one more installment to just macro shots I took one dewy morning last summer. For now, there are just a few macro shots included because this would be way too long of a post ;D Hope you guys will enjoy them.

Fall comes to Alberta – iPhone Landscape Photography

Fall comes to Alberta – iPhone Landscape Photography

It seems that summer passed really quickly in these parts.  It’s the end of September and beautiful, colourful fall is here.  Leaves are turning yellow and red and all shades in between … Time to test the new iPhone 6 picture abilities. So first impression are positive, although I did find a little flaw in the new design.  Apple moved the power button to the side of the iPhone, directly opposite of the volume up button which is also a shutter button for the camera. So if you are holding the iPhone horizontally to take picture you might, and you will press the power button by mistake. So instead of a picture you’ll just turn your phone off.  What possessed Apple to change the position of the power button from the top to the side??? I guess they thought the if they’ll make the iPhone look like the Samsung Galaxy, it might sell more?? Silly rabbits….

Devonian Botanical Gardens In Summer Splendor

Devonian Botanical Gardens In Summer Splendor

The last weekend of summer is already upon us.. It’s rather disgusting how fast this summer went!! I am so happy I was able to take my camera here and there and record some of the beautiful flowers before they are all gone and winter sets in.  So, today, we celebrate summer as it was during one of our recent trips to Devonian Botanical Gardens, near Devon, Alberta.  I hope you enjoy these as much as I do and come back to them when winter blues set in in the future to feast your eyes with all that color and beauty.  And, since our weather is shaping to be wonderful for the next couple of days, perhaps, if you live close enough,  you would want to visit the gardens? Have a wonderful weekend, everybody!!  Enjoy the last of the summer 😀

Summer Macros (From My Own Backyard)

Summer Macros (From My Own Backyard)

Our summer is pretty much over.. All the colorful flowers, pretty soon, will become just memories. After the first killer frost of the season there aren’t many of my beauties left..  I’m glad I have managed to get some pictures taken while they were there, pretty and fresh, a delight to watch.  I am going to enjoy looking at the pictures during the cold season, I’m sure.  I will also enjoy sharing more of them in the following months.  I hope you will be able to find as much enjoyment in looking at them as I do.

Alberta Canola Sunset

Alberta Canola Sunset

Alberta canola field sunset

Alberta canola field sunset

This year wasn’t very good for sunsets.  Huge forest fires in the NWT were at fault, bringing smoke and haze.  So far there were only a couple good days, and most of the time the beautiful fluffy clouds would burn away by sunset, leaving empty blue skies.  This is was one of those days.  The canola fields in Alberta, creating wonderful contrasts with the big blue skies, it’s always a great sight.  Unfortunately these types of photos were done a million times and more.  So what to do with a boring sky and a subject that has been photographed to death.  Well one solution is to pack up your gear and go home, or choose a different lens, open the aperture for max depth of field and try something different.   If the conditions are not right, and quite often in landscape photography you are relying on miss weather with her capricious nature, you run with the bulls as the saying goes.  Look for opportunities, and don’t wait for them to present themselves… actively look for them.  It will keep your mind sharp, and your eyes open to the world.  There will always be an interesting subject 🙂
